I've been on high dose of Vitamin D since 2003. For several years I was on 100,000 IU once a week, then it was reduced to 50,000 IU once a week and now just 50,000 IU every other week. It was first scripted to build me up before starting Forteo for osteoporosis. I can't "do" calcium.
I can't say that I noticed any benefits at any of these dosages but its not that expensive and could be enhancing or enabling my other meds, etc. so I stay on it as scripted by my endocrinologist.
For some reason or other vitamin D level was considered important before starting Forteo and whilst taking Forteo. And, of course, they recommend taking vitamin D w/the bisphosphonates for osteoporosis anyway.
