UCer with some Humira questions

Never been on the Crohn's forum before but at the suggestion of a UC moderator I'm over here to post.



I finally got my first Humira injection at the hospital last Thursday. I was waiting a month! For my prescription services to get it to me but wound up flaring in between remicade and the Humira so I received it in the hospital. I'm home now, and I had a rough last few days due to a low pulse rate. Lots of calls to the oncall doctors and basically Humira is the only thing that was out of the norm and could possibly have caused it. I was just wondering if anyone else had this same problem?
I did get the bruising from the injection and the soreness in the one leg but the low pulse was the worst!! I just was hoping it was a one time thing and not something I'll get every injection. Any experiences with Humira I'd really like to hear about

This is my second time on Humira and I have never had that problem. However I remember when I was on Remicade that low blood pressure or pulse could be a side effect. They always monitored it the whole time and made me wait a half hour after to make sure my bp and pulse were normal.

So maybe it is a side effect of biologics? Just not as common with Humira? Or maybe it was because of the loading dose and once you are on the smaller maintenance dose it won't happen.

Both times I was on Humira the loading dose of 4 shots and the next dose of 2 shots would really knock me out and make me sleepy but I don't usually have that issue once I am on the maintenance of 1 shot.

It's possible that it is related in some way to your hospital discharge? Something they were giving you there that you are not taking at home?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it is not the Humira. I did have a situation where I had high pulse & blood pressure while flaring, then dropped pretty low after I'd recovered. They were at the low end of the normal range, so the doctor wasn't concerned enough to do anything else at the time, but thought the change in pulse/pressure was significant enough that he wanted to keep an eye on it.
