I've had Crohn's for over 20 years, had 5' of my bowel removed, currently have a Seton stich in trying to mature a fistula tract and the Crohn's is flaring as bad if not worse than I can ever remember. My Gastro doc says I'm going to need surgery he thinks, I'm headed for an MRI this coming Tuesday to pin point the problem. With this flare up the biggest change is the most painful gas of my life. Regardless of what I eat or drink, no matter how small the portion I get the worst bloating and gas of my life. All I can do is lay on my side and rock back and forth until I can pass it (much to my familiys dismay). I've tried gasex and other over the counter remidies with no luck what so ever. Has any one out there been faced with this and come up with something that works?

I don't know of anything that truly works during a flare. Usually I'm too miserable to do yoga-- which is great in the privacy of your own home to get all the gas out. I was pretty rotten last week and in desperation i tried a milk, soy and gluten free liquid diet. I barely "drank" anything. It helped somewhat, but I still stunk up the house and looked eight months pregnant. Now a week later, the gas has subsided and my stomach is three inches smaller. I was hoping for a more dramatic difference. I was huge. I was just trying to find some humor in the very gassy situation. Oh well at least i can wear pants again. Thanks to remicade I feel great. I do hope you find some relief. Let us know if you find a trick.

I get really painful gas. A trick that works for me is this: kneel down and put your torso as low to the bed or floor as possible - keep your bum elevated. Stay in that position until you feel the gas move. I'm sorry for your discomfort. Hope this helps a bit.

You can try activated charcoal tablets and take them when you eat. You can get them at any health food store. They need to be taken separate from your regular medications so they dont interfere. I don't think anything works great when you are in a bad flare...so sorry!

Gumby44, should I take them before, after or with the meal? I know with the gasex they say to take before but that stuff did absolutely nothing for me.

I read somewhere a while ago that if you rub your stomach in a counter clockwise direction it alleviates some of it because that's the directions your intestines go in.. so when mine is really bad that's what i do, and it does help some with the pressure and to get things moving a little quicker.

It says on the charcoal bottle to take it right after eating. I thought it helped me a little.

I used to rub my daughters' stomached when they had bad gas as a baby. I'd forgotten about that. I'm so glad I checked back.

I feel your pain literally. My stomach is so swollen that I have not been able to put on pants for two days. My tummy is extremely loud and painful when the gas mves, but it will not pass. I am going to try the kneeling method and see if it can help, but this is ridiculous. I have surgery in two weeks and of course I flare up now. Good luck to you. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in this.

I too have bad painful gas and my tummy is loud! I tell my friends and family my belly is farting lol They look at me strange but thats what it sounds like it is so loud!! It is very helpful hearing from others that suffer from the same symptoms! I noticed mine gets worse when I have had too much dairy or veggies! Try monitoring your symptoms with what you are eating and you might find a link! Good luck I find the only relief is passing the gas!

I'm having the same misery today! Tried some GasEx but not sure it's helping. Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions! I will be trying them!

I like to recommend digestive enzyme. When food is not digested well, it's going to make gas and also that will hurt your bowels as well. Refer to my post. I've got significant result.
