I am sorry I was not here to support folks, though glad to report that my trip was fine and I feel great. I stuck to my gluten-free diet (in Holland where I was this was not a huge problem) and I was travelling with friends, who've known me a long time and would not have been shocked or horrified if things went south, but they did not. NO issues at all, and I am so glad. Anyway, it's nice to be home and I will try to spend some time on the forum now!

lucky thing!!! What was Holland like? Why was it easy to follow GF diet there?

There are gluten free crackers etc. in the grocery store there, just like in the states. And they have wonderful belgian fries, LOL. There were plenty of opportunities to eat delicious wheat-based foods like croissants and dutch pancakes and stroopwaffles, but I did not and I survived.

Holland was beautiful! The weather was outrageously good and the big flower display started just before we got there, so we had an afternoon of wandering through the tulip gardens at Keukenhof.

Sounds like a great trip. We missed you.

You made me salivate when you talked about the Belgian fries - as I am from Belgium originally. Those fries are AWESOME.  And the Belgian "warme waffels" (yes spelled that way,lol) are to die for. I would totally find it worth it to pay the price of cheating with one of those, haha...

Boy, did you bring me down memory lane - like Pavlov's dogs... :-)

InSoFla, I think Belgian waffles and stroopwaffles are not the same ... the stroopwaffles appear to me to be cookies with a waffle pattern on them. My friend's 10 year old daughter told us to put a stroopwaffle over our coffea/tea/hot chocolate to soften it up, but everyone I was with just enjoyed eating them crispy.

And yes, the belgian fries are yum! We didn't eat out much because we were there for a family event, most of the food was prepared by my friend in her house, or catered in by a local restaurant (Greek food one night, Turkish food another, so mostly vegetables and rice, perfectly gluten free!).

And shall we talk about the chocolate? mmmmmmm.....  And the CHEESE.  O.M.G. the cheese.

Belgium is known for its friendly people, and wonderfully delicious food!
