I spent years unsuccessfully trying to control my Crohn's through eating less and less, and all I got from it was an eating disorder and my worst relapses yet.
So basically I decided to go completely the opposite direction, follow the guidelines of an ED website, and eat 2500 calories a day, minimum. Results a few weeks later: I've developed a proper appetite that not even Pred could give me, and I'm finally making a connection between food and nourishment. I had no idea how much difference eating more - over 2000 calories a day is a must - could make.
It's not been all unicorns and rainbows. But I do know it has done infinitely more good for me than any medication (Pred being the possible exception, since that's the only thing which keeps the inflammation down) and that my intestines have not gone into meltdown over the additional food. The main problem is the stricture, not the colitis, but so far blatant obstructions are being kept at bay.
I'll still virtually certainly end up needing surgery but I'm not giving up eating.
