Hi borderlyme, Sorry that you may have crohn's, did you have a colonoscopy or any small bowel tests? I hope with the second opinion they give you more clarification...if you have an IBD (CD or Ulecerative Colitis) then I would expect your GI to put you on medications for it, RX tend to treat the inflammation (as Pentasa) of course not everyone responds to RX and end up having to try quite a few and even combinations of a couple or more RX to reach remission (clear inflammation) chances with RX are much better than with herbals but herbals can definitely offer a helping hand as well along with RX, chances of herbals/naturals "doing the trick" by themselves is very rare and generally at some point an IBDer will have to be on some type of RX in order to clear the inflammation (bring on remission).
The sooner you have a more concrete DX the better it should be for them to find the right treatment for it...presumably yes, once the inflammation is cleared then there should be no interference with digestion, what are the specific digestion issues you're having?
What are the symptoms you've been having with your tummy besides pain and thin stools, gas and bloating? Many of those symptoms are like IBS (there is no inflammation or bleeding with IBS though) of course, IBS and IBD can have very similar symptoms but many get misdiagnosed with one when they actually have the other (it's also possible to have both coexist at the same time...speaking from experience).
