I would get sicker on most meds and was prednisone dependent for a very long time. I found that I would try one rx med. at a time to rule out if it was the rx med, or my disease, or an allergic reaction that was making me worse or better. My system is very sensitive to meds.
Prior to the crohns, which was thought for a longtime to be uc, I did not take any pills. I was put on an levoquine with a upper respiratory infection by an urgent care doctor and found it helped my crohn's. So my Gi started me on Cipro as we crohn's people can end up with an infection like state with all the inflammation and sores inside the intestine. It helped me for a longtime -about a year. The problem with cipro is that is hard on your tendons. Even after i moved on to a biologic I had to have rotatator cuff repair. It was a tendon problem in my case. I can not prove it was from the cipro or even the pred or any other drugs but I was one of his youngest patients to need surgery on my shoulder. I have had cataract surgery and was considered a pediatric patient because I was under 60 years old. Lots of dental issues when on pred too and/or when I was more ill, I had broken teeth and the weird feeling of them feeling soft and wobbly (the tooth moves more), thin hair that was falling out and achy joints.
All of our drugs have side effects and we have to weigh that with how much our bodies can take and how we feel when we take them. All doses are individual as we are not all dealing with the same body weight and severity of disease. I was not a fan of the flagyl as I did not feel not any better or any worse. Just a metal taste in my mouth, which was gross.
I am a believer in a daily diary when I am very sick as it helps you remember, and it helps the doctor see trends in your disease pattern, I was bad about talking about my disease when I was a newbie! I was very embarrassed about it.
God Bless as we all cope. A crohny for 18 years.
