Good morning all,
I was recently discharged from the hospital after spending a total of 3.5 weeks recovering from a severe flare-up and some bacterial infections that took advantage of my weakened immune system. As a result of how sick I was, I dropped from my normal weight of 185 to 140 lbs in just about 3 months (I'm a 6'3 male).
At a follow-up appointment with my GI, I asked for some dietary guidelines that would help me both gain weight and would not result in even more trips to the bathroom. The document she gave me was from Northwestern University and was part of an overall explanation of low-residue/low-fiber diet. Much to my surprise, I saw that bacon (not Canadian or turkey bacon) was listed under a food to eat. I have been nervous to add it to my typical breakfast sandwich of egg and avocado on a plain bagel, so has anyone else been told bacon is okay? Any success/unsuccessful stories with it? As an added source of fat and salt, it would be a great addition to the diet but not worth getting sick over.
