I posted a rant a couple of weeks ago. Frustrated at the time that my Daughter wasn't feeling well.

Then, I followed that up with her being on the upswing. For a couple of days, she started feeling better.

The last week she nose dived again. When she eats she feels nauseous, headaches, listless, some diarreah.

She's lost 6 or 8 pounds now, and she's only 115lbs so it really shows.

Finally got fed up, and took her to the Doctor. The Doctor did a very thorough exam. Her bloodwork from a week ago was all normal, but she took more

She's diagnosed with viral gastritis. She has all the symptoms, and the Dr. said she's seem an upswing of cases. She said it could last 14 days, and prescribed Previcid.

After our own research, she has every symptom for sure. I hope this resolves soon. Please anyone that's had it, or knows of if, please chime in.

My worry is that doctors call it a virus when they don't know what's wrong.....or maybe it's really a virus and just needs to run its course. If it goes on for another week, then I think you need to make sure the bloodwork includes all the stuff for Crohn's flares....inflammation markers, fecal calprotectin, stool cultures for c.difficile etc. I'm sorry your daughter is going through this. I think those of us with IBD have a much harder time with GI viruses, etc. Shortly after I was diagnosed, when I was much less assertive than I am these days, I had Salmonella, but had it for months before it was diagnosed. I was having bad Diarrhea and nausea, and I just thought that's what it felt like to have Crohn's disease. When they finally tested my stool and got me on the right antibiotics, I got better quickly. If she hasn't done stool cultures yet, I think you should ask for them. I was only having D 1-2 times a day, but was very sick, so we missed it for a long time. I lost about 20 lbs.....your daughter doesn't have that kind of weight to lose!

That's oood advice for sure. The Dr. did another round of bloodwork, including all the inflammation markers. I like the idea of a stool culture and fecal cal.

If things don't change soon, I will be asking for those tests.

So true about getting viruses, and trying to be sure that they're not Crohn's related activity. Every time my Daughter gets sick I always worry about that.

We do have a very good Doctor though. I think her own Daughter has IBD. She's extremely thorough. Our GI on the other hand is a different story. She's good as well, but trying to get into see her is impossible. You get your 2 appointments a year and that's it.

Yeah, gastritis basically just means stomach bug. I get "diagnosed" with it every time I am in the ER with vomiting and diarrhea and it's not a Crohn's flare. I'm actually really surprised they haven't ordered a stool sample yet.

I mentioned it to my Daughter and she said the Doctor forgot to give her the container. I might just stop by and pick one up.

She's still feeling down today. She was crying when I came home. Since she's had this, she's had a non-stop headache. That's what's bothering her the most. She's been taking Tylenol, but it doesn't work. Not sure what to do about that. Would that be related to the virus?

It could be. Especially if she isn't staying hydrated. Have her drink lots and lots of gatorade (for the electrolytes).

Yeah keep an eye on it, seems like every time I get hospitalized they call it a darn stomach virus. And I know better because I know what my Crohn's flares feel like. Frustrates me to no end. My GI doc will usually agree with me since as usual steroids are the only thing that pull me out of it. But hopefully it is just a virus in her case!

Tom, has she had headaches before when she's had Crohn's flares? Or is this something new?

Did you/she tell the doctor about the headaches when you talked about the other symptoms?

Yes, she did mention it to the Dr., and she told her to double up on the Tylenol. Tylenol doesn't seem to work though. We did come up with a theory though. She did stop having coffee and tea, which we thought might cause caffeine withdrawl.

To experiment, she had a coffee today, and her headache went away. Who knows, we'll see what tomorrow brings.

She has had somewhat periodic headaches though in the past. probably a couple a week on average.

Oh yes, caffeine withdrawal will most definitely do that. I had horrid migraines every single day for months when I stopped drinking tons of soda every day cold-turkey.
