Minnie, are you sure it's mannitol they give? I looked at Drugs.com & it says it's given to people with kidney failure, available in an injection or pill form. Needless to say, I'm confused.
I do not know if an NG would even be allowed for a CT or MRE scan. I have had NG tubes 3 different times while in the hospital for complete bowel rest. I hope I never have to have another one again, they are not pleasant being inserted. I would rather have a cscope any day of the week over an NG tube.
I would stay with having the ultrasound, if you have inflammation it should be able to detect it. If inflammation is found, then perhaps it's time to discuss switching medication.
You asked about Stelara in the UC forum if it would take care of proctitis. I can't answer that question because we all metabolize these medications differently.
One more thought, have you ever tried Bentyl? It is an antispasmodic, this may be something to discuss with your dr too.
