Waiting for End of Job

I wasn't sure where to post this. I chose depression because I am kind of down. I'm retiring at the end of next week but really don't want to be working at all. My bed is alluring and I just want to lie there and sleep. Don't see how I'm going to get through these next 9 days. It feels like a lot.

There will be plenty of work and I just don't feel like doing it. I'm sure there are plenty of others who feel the same. I guess it is One Day at a Time.

Retiring is the 'dream' of the young. Once it becomes a reality it can be a very daunting prospect.

I was 'forced' into 'early retirement' due to disability and it freaked me out. I got a psychiatrist and a therapist, went on anti d's for a while and did group as well as individual therapy.

The best thing I ever did was get a dog. She makes me have a schedule. She keeps me company. She entertains me. She is a good 'conversation starter' when we are out together or I'm sharing about her antics. She knows the difference between me going back to bed if I'm sick or me going back to bed because I'm depressed. She was not 'trained' to do this, it seems to come to her naturally.

Have you any plans for your retirement? Things you used to say "I wish I had time to do this or that."? Places you've dreamed of going? People you'd like to visit? New skills you'd like to learn? A language? A hobby? Something that will get you out in the fresh air, possibly with others of the same mindset? Bird watching? Fishing? A book club?

Are there any volunteer opportunities that would make use of your lifetime experience? Reading aloud to the very young or very old? Spending time at a local pet shelter petting cats or walking dogs?

Aimlessness is an enemy of mine. Checking in here every day or every couple of days has helped me. Welcome aboard.

When you retire not everyone thinks
the same for me it was volunteer work
that kept me busy and kept me
from sitting home and feeling lost
for others it might be going to work
out , we all need something todo
after we retire.
