Crisco is the best. We have a couple of local stores that sell lard--but I have never used it. My crusts never turn out well, though. Sound great, Karen!!
Cass--The paperwork can take a lot of time, can't it!! I don't have any classes until Early Tuesday morning, but since they have a two week holiday in China--my slots are booked for next week. One of my favorite recipes is crock pot pulled meat. Take a big piece of pork, and rub it all over with your favorite spices--whatever. BBQ, Italian seasoning, Asian. My fave is Italian spice mix with some added fennel seed and black pepper and salt. Put in crock pot. Ignore--and then take out and cool-and boil down the juices for a sauce. I serve it over some fresh spinach and provolone cheese.
Joyce--Mary and Joseph were thought to have traveled in spring, because many people were farmers and were busy at other times of the year. Plus the weather was better. Remember the events at the end of Jesus life--travelling in the spring for the same reasons for the same holiday. December 25 was appropriated from a pagan ritual in late December celebrating Mithras, a god of violence and the sun, who was the son of the sun and was sacrificed for others in his tribe.
On that happy bit of trivia--making stollen (gluten and sugar free,) black beans, a sweet potato pie, and mixing together a frittata for easy breakfast. Be well all--peace and calm to all.
