Switching from Prozac 40mg to Cymbalta 30mg

Hello all, I'm new here. I searched through the forums and couldn't quite find the answer to my question.

My doctor has taken me off of Prozac 40mg, which I have been on for 8 years at the same dose, and is putting me on Cymbalta 30mg starting immediately. One thing I forgot to ask him when I left today is whether Cymbalta will kind of "pick up" where the Prozac left off or am I doomed to experience some withdrawal effects from the Prozac while I also get the joyous side effects of starting a new anti-d.

I am thinking that it will pick up where the other dropped off. But I could be wrong. You are lucky you can switch and don't have to go off one before starting another. Some meds you have to do that. I hope that the Cymbalta works well for you.

Thanks Karen. I guess it's a wait-and-see kind of thing! I am looking forward to the positive effects of Cymbalta. Seems like it might cover a wider array of things (including chronic pain from arthritis).

I take Cymbalta. The doctors rolled me over from Lexapro. They told me I would have no issues at all because the Cymbalta picks up were Lexapro leaves off. For once, they were right. I had no issues at all. I have nothing but great things to say about Cymbalta. It's been a life saver for me. It does help with depression, anxiety and nerve pain. I have tried a bunch of different antidepressants before to no avail but this was a saving grace. Everyone responds differently to drugs but I encourage you to be positively excited about your new prescription. I hope it works as well for you as it has for me. Good luck!
