Lost a pet

Hi
Had a very sad day yesterday.
Took my 10 year old cat to the vet because she lost a lot of weight with no other symptoms. I had in my mind that she had over active thyroid and that a daily pill would cure her but the xrays showed she was full of cancer and it was recommended she be put down. They said within days she would be gasping to take a breath.
It was so shocking. She went very peacefully but I cried like a baby. My husband was too upset to be present. Everyone was so nice and they made a remembrance of her paw prints with the Rainbow Bridge poem.
We brought her home and buried her. Planted a ***** Willow tree on top.
Still crying on and off and don't know why but it's bringing back memories of when I was with my mother as she was dying.

I am so sorry Weary, I know how it feels. Especially when unexpected. I lost my dog in May of last year suddenly to a heart attack. She was eight. I now have a pup that keeps me busy and my mind occupied, but I still miss my other dog and I still cry when I think about it.

Be gentle with yourself. I too am glad you planted the tree as a memorial.

I hope that things get easier with time.

I am sorry, weary. Think it's easier when you have a lot of time to prepare, as we did with our old dog. He didn't get cancer, he just became senile - in the last year or two of his life he didn't even recognise us and would just circle around endlessly. He also become incontinent whereas previously he was incredibly well house-trained. I don't think he was in any pain, but it was just so sad when he didn't recognise us any longer. My mum was with him when he eventually got put down.

Anyway, the memorial tree sounds like a lovely memorial.
