hi my name is Rich aka Older Guy,

i found out yesterday i need a bottom denture. the price quoted to me was $15,000. this will take a sizable chunk out of my life savings. i am 67 and on Social Security.

i just feel frustrated, angry, disappointed in life. it's hard to have the energy to do anything. i would rather sit around. i am going to try taking a shower and getting dressed and doing some stuff that needs to be done today.

i would appreciate any feedback and/or encouragement.

Is it 15,000.00 or 1,500.00? I could see 1,,500.

Do you have dental insurance? I have Delta Dental, well I think I do. I found out if you get your dentures or work done in September or October that is when their funds come to you. You can get from the present year and the next year as their fiscal year is in October. I don't know if you have dental insurance but if you do, call them and find out when is the best time to get.

I think my bottom dentures were 1100. That was a few years ago. The insurance paid most of it, but not all. And they never fit properly so I stopped wearing them, now they don't fit at all. I just can't do bottom dentures well. I have a top denture and I love it. Don't even notice it is there.

But without the bottom, I am limited on what I can eat. Nothing hard.

Hang in there Rich. I hope things get better. Can you make payments so that it doesn't eat up your savings?

Are you taking anything for the bipolar disorder, anxiety and depression?

I know depression can make me very tired. As someone with bipolar, I take Lithium as a mood stabilizer and Mirtazapine for the depression.

I know some days, I have to give myself a lot of credit for doing anything. Shaving is one of the worst things for me.

Can't use an electric shaver, which I didn't mind, but now I have to use to plastic, disposable razors and shaving cream. Feel good that they make those things, so I can shave, but do not like shaving. So when I do, I give myself extra credit.

Do you think you might be depressed?

Throughout much of 2004, I was depressed, in part, because I knew I needed dental work and I feared that it would cost me a lot.

Rich, is it possible that you could see a dentist that doesn't charge as much money for those who have a low income? That's what I did.

Just a thought.

Hi Mike,

Great idea. right now i have recovered from my bad depression which i felt yesterday. i am doing research on other options, including comparing prices, all with the idea to lower the cost.

Indeed nowadays to make your teeth is more expensive than plastic surgeries. I don’t understand why the prices are so high since the dentist cabinets are on each corner in the city. It would be great if will appear some programs implemented which will make the dentists’ services more affordable for children and seniors. I remember when I had serious issues with my teeth, I had to find some other ways of earning money besides my full-time job. I hardly could gather the whole sum. Since then I hate the dentists and take care of my teeth as of my baby.

Rich,

Do you have a Dental University near you?

Alot of them have internships supervised by licensed Dentists fully insured and reasonable cost.

strongly urge you not to pay 15k for dentures. That is ridiculous to say the least

It would cost less money to fly to another country like Norway and get them them!

Don't know how I missed this post! A woman from our local food bank helped me apply for Aged, Blind and Disabled Medicaid program. That's how I'm getting my dentures done...free!
