Welcome to this forum, Laineyk. I'm sorry you are stressed but I understand completely that any health alert
will stress a person out.
While the 115 fasting is in the "prediabetic" area, you don't want to continue like that so I'm glad your doctor is being proactive and trying to get you down to more normal number - especially if diabetes is in your family.
Your latest fasting results are within range of normal as long as they are under 100 although a nondiabetic's fasting would be in the 80's. In any case, being aware of potential health problems will help avoid complications later on.
Please read the two stickies pinned to the top of the diabetes forum for information about
food and meters. Also, check out http://www.bloodsugar101.com/ for very complete information about
diabetes.
You should know that stress, physical pain and some medication may raise blood sugar. (If you're taking any other meds, check out side effects on blood sugar.) Food has a very big and immediate effect: the more carbs you eat, the higher your blood sugar will rise, so be aware that bread and any flour products, rice, potatoes, and corn will raise your blood sugar.
You have an advantage that you are not overweight, and walking 3 miles daily controls blood sugar (as well as blood pressure and stress), too.
Besides understanding how food affects your blood sugar, you might try a very small snack of some cheese or plain yogurt in the evening after dinner/before bed and see if your morning fasting is lower.
Please ask all the questions you have. I'm glad you found us!
