How was summer

Summer here outside of Memphis was (and still is) hot although we've had rain and don't have to worry about drought. In fact, sometimes we get too much rain that usually comes up from the Gulf. I have not been able to walk outside as I usually do because of the heat and I'm not about to get out there at 6:00 in the morning. Then there are mosquitoes around, too. And everyone is worried about Zika. As far as I know we haven't had a local case here but it's probably a matter of time.

I am looking forward to some nicer days, we have copped some serious rain. soz about the drought, something my country knows about. I feel for the farmers and animals. cheers.

Hi There Will!! Good to see you back. :)

I'm about an hour from you but we've had about the same weather. Hot, humid and not much rain except for a few days, here and there. As The Happy Turtle mentions, I also feel bad for the farmers, animals and for the provinces and states, that have had forest fires. Thankfully, I love the heat but do not look forward to the cold of winter, although I do love the sparkly snow.

We took a flight to Winnipeg and spent about a week there and had a good time. Much to see and do. We stayed at The Fort Garry Hotel. Fancy with great service. I didn't have to pay the $10. fee for the fridge, since I have Diabetes. We couldn't believe how cheap their taxi fares are there. Hubby said that's because they use Hybrid cars. You pretty well have to take out a bank loan here, just to take a taxi across the city. :) Uber is another story.

Last year my Mom's Doctor recommended that she receive total care in a Home, so since we are her power of attorneys, we have been looking after her property, bills, clothing, and everything else that comes up concerning her life, including agreeing to any changes of her medications, if needed. So that responsibility is ongoing.

My hubby hired some guys to get the squirrel nest out of our chimney and replaced the chewed up chimney caps. It'll be nice using the fireplace some evenings when it's cold out
during the winter.

I had my Carpal Tunnel Surgery in July and it healed well. Happy to get that done.

I have a new Endo. She's really nice and up to date on info and not pushy. I mentioned about getting a CGM since I have Hypounawareness. She said,"Sure". She suggested that I take the loaner for a week or 2, in case I decide that I don't like it. Do you have any recommendations, if I do decide to get one through our insurance??

Thanks for the pump info but I was looking for CGM info. The Dexcom G4 Platinum goes with the Ping, I believe. Our Insurance did cover the pumps way back in 2006 when I was looking at the pumps at the hospital but I decided that I didn't want one after all. Then the Government took over paying for the pumps which makes no sense to me since the Insurance covered it but anyways......

I looked all over the net to see if our Insurance(Manulife) covers the CGM but no I didn't find
what I was looking for. I'll ask my husband to ask his Insurance but me thinks it's a "NO Coverage", for now. I did find that they cover Life Insurance for people with HIV though. Surprised! I don't think they cover Diabetics for Life Insurance. Mind you, I didn't ask. It would probably be expensive for both ailments.

YES! My second home is the Riverside. I'm not far from there or the General. Before I used to walk(on a good day) to the Riverside until my RA got really bad. I used to live at the General(they had a great cafeteria) until they moved my Specialists to the Riverside
for some reason. My Rheumy was not impressed. Me neither! Both our Kids were born at the G and everything happened there practically. All my Doctors were there. I hardly think that we have the same Endo however at the Riverside. There are a few there that fit my description. Her name ends in an N. That's all I can say about her name on here. Thanks! :)

Ya, I'm 90% sure that the Insurance companies here, do not cover CGM's....YET! We'll have to fix that. :) They could at least pay 75%. CGM's were about $1,000. before. Not sure how much they are now. I'll have to do some research. I could afford to pay for the CGM and quite a few sensors but it sounds like they would continually burn a hole in my pocket. I wouldn't want my husband paying for them, since I feel he puts out enough for the bills, as is.

It has gotten cooler now, so go out and exercise Will. I'll cheer you on. :)

Summer was hot and dry. So now autumn is brown and crunchy. I know there are a lot of areas getting too much rain. Could you please send a few inches to East Tennessee? Thanks.

Well we had our first full night of rain on Thursday into late Friday morning, steady rain something we haven't had this summer, did you know grass other colour is green

We went from periods of rain with nice, green grass to the aforementioned brown grass! Not much of a nice medium.
This week is cooler, which I'm happy about! Not looking forward to snow, just those beautiful autumn days...

msOuchie I did an interesting survey yesterday regarding CGMs and it kept on asking if I would get one even if the government or private insurance companies didn't pay for it they where proposing 3 different monthly payment options they quoted a start up price of $4000 and $364 a month for supplies, I still said no not until somebody pays for it

Thank you for doing the survey and for saying,"NO" to purchasing such an expensive device plus paying the cost of those monthly supplies. Talk about greed! As I mentioned before, the last time that I checked the price of a CGM, it was $1,000. plus a cheaper monthly fee for the supplies which I thought reasonable. That monthly fee that you mention, is half of our mortgage which I prefer to pay off for the next couple years instead of wasting the money on a CGM. I will however borrow the offered CGM for a week, from the hospital at my next appointment. It will be interesting to see the results between my regular 8-10 blood tests a day, plus see what is going on while I'm sleeping. I usually wake up during night to visit the can and test afterwards anyways. Not many surprises.

I thought that I had signed a petition for Diabetics asking for the Ontario Government to cover the costs of CGMS plus part of the costs of supplies, I believe. I did not see the "Thank You" after submitting my response, so I'll have to look it up and try it again. The petition was by a lady who supposedly has "brittle" Diabetes and has seizures during the night. It was on www.Change.org but I forget the name of the petition. Just look up CGM paid by Ontario government or something similar and you'll probably come across it, if you wanted to sign it. She has 2,095 votes and needs 2,500.

The other week, I was sent to the ER with fever and chills, breathing problems, severe bodily pain in any position, etc. Turns out I had Pneumonia, my blood sugars went to mid teens, my new RA drug had started attacking my body. Fun week! They treated me well and fixed most of the problems with iv antibiotics, Morphine long and fast acting, high dose Pred again, new inhaler, etc. Someone did make the err of giving me Morphine and iv Dilaudid. Evidently a No-No. Who knew?? I feel better now and my sugars are back in my normal range usually. Routine is good!

Thanks again for the CGM information Will. It makes me feel even more set to hammer the Gov for a CGM while I'm still alive. :D Take care!!
