I will be having major surgery in less than 2 weeks. I know that they use some kind of Detrose/glucose saline drip and that this will cause my bs to skyrocket. What can I tell the hospital staff that would help to minimize this issue?
Last January I had a minor procedure and they used a Dextrose drip even though they knew I was diabetic. After the procedure I asked them about taking my meds and they said not to because they didn't want my bs to drop too low. Before the procedure I had a bs of 80, after it was 375! I took my meds anyway as soon as I got home (which was later that day).
I am worried about this surgery because I will be in the hospital for several days and will have no control over my meds.
Any suggestions?
