Got an email the other week for this and I just got my new Breeze 2
in the mail today. Just have to fill out your information and on
the second page pick which meter you'd like. Took mine almost 2 weeks
to get here.

You can get a free meter directly from Bayer and OneTouch from their websites also. Meters come with lancets and 10 strips. When you use up the strips, you need to buy more, however. If your doctor prescribes the strips for you, then your insurance will pay for them. Those who are not diagnosed (meaning that your doctor doesn't think you need a blood glucose meter and will not prescribe one) can buy meters and strips out of pocket. WalMart's brand ReliOn seems to be very inexpensive.

There is a thread in the UC forum here that talks about a Consumer Reports article on meters. It seems the CR recommends the OneTouch UltraMini or Wal-Mart's ReliOn meters as being the most accurate.

wodin, thanks for the reference! ReliOn also offers the A1c test by mail with reports back to your email for under $10, too.
