Hi duranie, I am not an expert on diabetes, but I can tell you of my husband's experience.
He was diagnosed after a high BGL result of a blood draw by his regular gp. Since he was 40 yrs. at the time, his dr. assumed that he was type 2. He of course ran the antibody test to determine for sure what we were dealing with. He tested positive for antibodies, so he was then officially diagnosed with LADA, or late-onset adult type 1.
It is my understanding that type 1 is an auto-immune disease, therefore the antibodies are present, because the body is in effect, fighting within itself. The body is actually attacking the beta cells of the pancreas, eventually leading it unable to produce insulin.
So I believe the answer to your question is no. I think that as a type 1 you would have a positive antibody test. Please consult your dr., or endocrinologist about this for sure though, again I am not an expert.
Good luck, and I hope that you find the help and answers that you need.
