Hi and welcome, woodyvt. The only way to bring the A1c (and all measurements of blood sugar) down by ourselves is to change what we're eating or ramp up physical activity.
So, to start, can you write what food you eat for meals and at other times during the day? Are you getting any physical activity on a regular basis?
In the meantime, you can look through the stickies at the top of the Diabetes Forum for more general information, and click on the link in my signature which will take you to Diabetes 101. That site has a lot of information about blood sugar.
In short, the more carbs we eat, the higher our blood sugar goes. So, write about the food you're eating and let's start from there!
I'm glad you posted!
