Poor things, I have been so busy and haven't took care of them.  I done a very small garden this year thinking I could keep up....ha ha ha.

Can someone come over and weed.. tongue

I tried one of those Topsy Turvy thingies to grow a tomato plant, ended up spending about $30 total (It's a long story) and ended up with one lousy tomato with those deep, scaly cracks in it.  Thank God for grocery stores!

Hi Kellie, Sorry I cant come weed for you, gardening and hot outside are just not me. lol

Sherrine, I have heard negative outcome with those things....yup I still want one until you told me you spent $30 dollars on one. I'm with you, stick to the store.

Shirley...come on it's fun and rewarding....NOT because I don't even eat whole tomatoes I just wanted to make salsa, lol.

Kellie I sure know what you mean about the weeds. I'm pulling weeds every other
day in my flower garden., the weeds are winning but the flowers are still pretty.
Going out later to pull, it is 96 out...so I'll wait till there is some shade.

Did you say salsa?....yummy...I might be headed over!

Sometimes mulch/compost can kill growing weeds. Perhaps weed it and throw it all around the tomatoes as a mulch. I'm still trying to weed over here, huge job. My grandma has 3 acres. And she hasnt weeded in years, I got 2 of 10 gardens weeded now. I'm pulling weeds that are as tall as me and taller too sigh

You know what you might enjoy? A dwarf tomato plant called Red Robin. I've grown it a few times and I just loved it --- it only gets about 12" tall (the whole plant) - produces TONS of cherry sized tomatos (about 1 - 1-1/2" across), and can grow in a pot as small as 6" wide. I put mine in a mix of 50% perlite and 50% growing mix, and fed them heavily. They looked as gorgeous as the plants they put on seed packets. Really easy. No weeding in pots. ;-) I wish I could still eat tomatoes - I loved those. Nice tomato flavor and very sweet. You might have to order the seeds - but thanks to eBay you can avoid huge shipping fees from catalog companies. I love growing stuff in containers.

PS: You can also bring it indoors to a very bright sunny window - and keep it going half way through winter.

What are weeds.... you mean those tall throney things growing on either side of my walkways, in the flower beds. I thought that was the natural beauty everyone's talking about.LOL

So glad I didn't buy that TopsyTurvy.... have wanted to so many times.... You saved me $30

Well, I'm afraid the plane ticket you'd have to purchase would far exceed the cost of your tomatoes :)
How about just going to the local farmer's market instead...it'll be a whole lot cheaper that flying me out to weed!

My DM growa wonderful tomatoes, she only has one plant she buys the fancy plants well to be they are not the normal plants.
One is a tiger plant which you eat green well the tomatoe always stay green. They are a wonderful tomato I love it and as soon as we get speing here I will grow it in a large pot. The other one is called The Black Russian not as nice as the tiger but still nice it is a very dark tomato.
Mum plnts them in the same spot in the garden every year this cuts down on the cost of furtilizer.

I have always said it was too much trouble until the coast of tomatoes went up too $9.85 a kilo which is around 2 lbs.

Those tomatoes are ones that I have never heard of.  But I plant the good old stand bys.  cherry tomatoes and beefsteaks for sandwiches. 

We have a few plants out in the garden.  Not many.  Our growing season is so iffy that we never know if we are going to get frosted out or not. 

This year has been pretty good.  Everything really took off in the heat.  We have had a lot of humidity this year too.

I just got 2 ripe tomatoes!!! I didn't spend the money for topsy-turvey's so I made my own from 5 gallon fruit containers from
work. Cut a hole in the bottom, anchor the plant with a sponge with a slit in it and then add dirt. It works and is much cheaper.

I finally got time to weeds and was please to see a small green tomato starting to grow....um that is till my 5 year old plucked it.

That is a good ideal, I have to share that Nana.

Oh I'm sure we all have pricesless moments.......he attempted to try to tie it back on, I had to explained why that wouldn't work.
