Right now I am taking Lyrica, and it helps a little bit. But I have heard some people say that Savella is better? I could use some opinions. I have a doctor's appointment in just over a week.

I tried Lyrica for a few weeks and got nothing but a nasty weight gain of 1/2 lb a day.
Neurontin, which is similar and lots cheaper, seemed better for a while, but I started getting side effects, stopped it and felt so much better off it.

I've heard that Savella is better. It all depends on what your body can tollerate.

Savella has some serious side effects. Some people here have benefited but many had to stop taking it due to side effects. Also, for some, it stopped working after a few months. Of course that happens with many of the meds that help fibro, I don't know if it happens more often with Savella.
If Lyrica is working and you aren't having a problem with side effects, I would suggest staying on it for now. If it stops working, then switch to Savella.
My concern with Savella is that the original studies were showing that it wasn't effective for fibro then, suddenly, after the stock dropped, it was working and the stock went back up. You can google this information, it was about
5 yrs ago.

The thing about
my Lyrica is that I need a higher dose now, but when I was on a higher dose before, it made me feel really suicidal, so I had to go back down in the dosage. I have read info on Savella. That's why I wanted other people's opinions on it.

Docs don't understand that raising doses can make us sensitive and we get side effects. We have to know our bodies, and know possible side effects and complications, especially the serious ones.
I was on Crestor for years with no problem. Then my heart doc decided he wanted my cholesterol down more and upped my dose. I started getting the muscle pain and had to stop. Then he put me on Lipitor and that was worse. So for a couple of years I had to take a different class of drug, colestipol, which worked some but caused horrible constipation, for which I needed more junk.
It's been that way for pain meds, heart meds, muscle spasm meds, etc. Now I'm trying Cymbalta and not expecting anything positive.

All our bodies respond differently to these meds, so it's hard to say which one is better for YOU. I am currently on Lyrica and "hanging in there". My pain was controlled much better by the Savella, but I only lasted on it a short time due to some intolerable side effects.
I would get a vicious, vice-grip squeezing feeling around the back of my head and thought it was ready to explode.

My grandmother was on Lipitor. It caused her a lot of pain. She had to take both methadone and lortabs to deal with the pain, but she was very sensitive to those meds. Now that she is off the Lipitor, she is doing much better and is off all her pain meds.
