New to this!!!

I use to go to a doctor of internal medicine. And that is who diagnosed me. Now I see an DO, I think it is called. A lot of the members see rheumatologists (sp). I myself have never gone to one. You want to make sure that the doctor believes in fibromyalgia, which some don't. And make sure that they are going to treat you. Some go to pain specialists, or pain clinics. A lot of good information is just word of mouth, so I would ask around. Or call a few.

I forgot, welcome to the fibromyalgia forum. I am so glad that you have joined us. I see you have already looked at fibro101, I am glad it was helpful. Feel free to ask questions, and I am sure that you will get some good advice.

My doctor is also a DO

This is my first posting. I was referred to a rheumatologist at the suggestion of my internist. He diagnosed me with Fibro + other issues, once we ruled out Lupus (my magnifying mind dxs)  through lab tests. I also suffer from severe depression/bipolar II depending on which psychiatrist you talk to and there is alot of pain associated with that so it's important to differentiate between the two.

In regards to disability, I agree that a rheumatologist and a lawyer are a must.

Hi, Fitgrl and Nashville, and welcome!  I'm so glad you two found us and joined the family!  Nashville, you might want to start an introductory thread like Fitgrl has done.  Otherwise our members might not know you are here.  We like to welcome everyone!

 

I use a board certified Internist for my doctor.  I guess the main thing that matters is that they believe fibro is a true illness and do treat fibro patients.  There are Internists, Rhuemies, and DOs out there that still don't believe this is an illness.  I am on disability and got it by only seeing an Internist for fibro.  (I have other health issues, too, that played into getting disability.)  I have never been to a rheumatologist.
