They took away my Midrin!

Why, oh why?  It was the only thing that helped my migraines.  Been taking it for 20 years.  Now all of a sudden, it's gone.

First Darcocet (which actually turned out ok for me, because I switched to Tramadol) and now this.  My hunch is that these medications get old and cheap, and they want to replace them with more expensive ones.  Maybe that's just my paranoid self, but big pharma does have an appetite for the big profits, doesn't it??

I am sorry that they took away your medication. Was it pulled off of the market or did the doctor just quit prescribing it? And yes, they do like to come out with new brand names that put a huge dent in our pockets. And I personally think it is a shame. They make so much money on medications.

I hope that you can find something else for your migraines. I think a friend of mine takes something called ferocette. Or something like that. And I probably didn't spell it right. But either way, I hope that you don't have migraines. I stay away from too much caffiene, chocolate and cheese. These foods can cause migraines. I get the occular migraines. I don't have a lot of pain, but I have vision problems really bad. And the nausea. It usually lasts about 30 minutes and then goes away. I have had them last longer and some shorter, but the average is about 30 min. I find I get them with eye strain too. And mental stress.

I'm sorry about this!  The company took it off the market.  Plus it wasn't FDA approved.  This will explain it to you.

Debbie, I'm so sorry that the med that helped your migraines will not be available to you. I know first hand how excruciating migraine pain can be. Have you ever tried Imitrex? If you have migraine pain that is over the top, horrific pain, Butorphanal nasal spray might help you. I've used it on occasion. It is an opiod pain reliever that can be used for migraines.

I'm lucky that over the years the frequency of migraines has lessoned and the pain is more bearable. I can use Excedrin now.

Debbie, I thought it was strange that the company took it off the market and not the FDA.  Maybe they knew it wouldn't pass FDA rules since the FDA is now knuckling down.  I think there was Tylenol in it and maybe too much Tylenol.  That's the main reason Darvocet was taken off the market by the FDA.  People were overdosing on Tylenol because it seems to be put in everything we take!  You really have to read labels these days. 

 

I'm sorry you can't get it but I bet there are others out there you can get.  That article mentioned several that had the same ingredients in it that ARE FDA approved.  Maybe there was something weird about the fillers that company used, also.  Guess we will never know.

I have used Midrin for years, too. I can't take the others because of heart problems.

I use to be on Midrin about 7 years ago or more. I loved Midrin and it helped, but when it went off the market, my doctor would not prescribed and I was unable to buy it because it was a discontinued item. I was very disappointed myself. This helped migraines a lot and now I take Fiorinal and it does almost nothing for me. Bummer. Hope they find something that will work for you soon. Take care.

I'm sorry you have to go through this, finding a medication that works is hard then to have it not available that just sucks. I have had a few migraines but have never taken anything for them just stayed in a dark room for about 3 days and nights and made everyone stay quiet. I didn't even know they made a medicine for migraines.

Hi Debbie, sorry they discontinued your med!  I take fiorinol and it does work for me.  I have to be careful tho because it has a really long half life and by he second or thirds day of taking it as prescribed I get loopy.  It does not have tylenol in it.  I really hope you find something that works for you.
