Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has shooting pains in their head and ear. Last year I purchased a woman's multi vitamin pack and took one days worth of supplements. After that first dose of supplements from this pack I came down with shooting pains in my head. I didn't take anymore and I did get my money back.

The pain comes and goes. I haven't had this for several months, now they've returned.

I just returned from a physical and my GP didn't know what to make of it. I'm thinking it may have started up again from seeing a chiropractor. He adjusted my neck and when I left the office I began having the pains. I called him and he said the adjustment could have irritated the nerves. The adjustments have helped my back and neck but what to make of this?

I see in your siggy you have herniated discs, and you see a chiro? May I ask why?

I have a very low opinion of them. Even before my 4 level cervical fusion with instrumentation and cadaver bone, there was no way I'd let a chiro touch me. He probably did more damage.

I used to go to a chiropractor and he messed me up big time.  I walked in and had to shuffle out because I couldn't lift my feet off the floor.  I talked to him about it before I left and he said he couldn't do more at the moment!

 

I went home, laid down with ice on my back.  Then I couldn't get up again because of shooting "electrical" pains in my back.  I nearly need to call EMS to come and get me.  Because of the shooting pains, I had to sleep sitting up for 1 1/2 YEARS.  So, for me, chiropractics and fibro are not a good mix.  Having herniated disks, too, could make these adjustments quite dangerous.  This is just my humble opinon.

You've given me something to think about. I do have herniated and degenerative disks and before the chiropractor the pain was extreme and I had severe migraines. At least that's under control but I do still have to watch what I do.

Are these pains really sharp? The first thing that occurred to me was, sounds like an ear infection.

I also wonder about chiropractic adjustments....whether that's what made my discs worse, considering that all my damage is in the area he adjusted for 2 decades. Guess I won't be doing that for awhile, anyway!

Does it feel like an electrical shock kind of pain? You may want to ask about Trigeminal Neuralgia. I was diagnosed Fall 2010. I had the shooting pains in head and ear plus my nose was going numb. I ended up at the dentist thinking I had a bad tooth one week but she found no cavity or absess. The next week every tooth on that side hurt so bad that percocet didnt help. When I went back to see her in tears, she checked again and nothing. She sent me to Neurologist and after MRI I was diagnosed. He prescribed Gabapentin which has taken away the horrible pain. I still have some problems but nothing I can't handle.Just a thought.

Debbie, I went for a physical. No ear infection. Thanks. I'm wondering if it has to do with allergies or wind. I hadn't had any pains in my head for a few days then the wind picked up. That day it really hurt.

Maezyaya, yes it does feel like electrical shock pains. Trigeminal Neuralgia makes sense. Thanks for sharing that. And I did have a tooth extracted a couple weeks ago.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm allergic to the metal in my mouth from tooth implants.

Just a thought, but my future mother-in-law has Trigeminal Neuralgia. I hope it's not contagious but even if it is I wouldn't have changed a thing. I enjoy doing things for her.

I agree with the chiro's, they never helped me and seems like you start going and they never discharge you, especally with good ins.

 

I get those shooting pains in my head, they are called ice pick headaches from what i researched. mine only last a few minuets at the most but I can get several at different spots one after another and than they stop. they seem to run in spurts don't have any for a long while and than they are back. i know other people who get them also and they do not have FM.
