I have done “rehab” training at a gym. It’s not physio, but it’s the same concept.
By putting the focus on moving properly, and strengthening the muscles that support that correct posture and movement you help recover from injury or illness, and reduce the chance of further injury.
Basically, it’s looking at what strength and movement you have, and how to best work with it to get more strength and more movement. It could be stretches, it could be weight bearing exercises… Whatever is best for the involved muscles.
I used to do a regular gym workout, stretches, weight training, cardio, then more stretches… I wound up stoping because I couldn’t keep it up with my new work hours. My pain levels did steadily decrease while working out, and increase when I stoped.
I’ve gone back to the gym, and I started back with Pilates. I was so sore I could barely move for a week after. So I ditched Pilates.
But I’ve just restarted yoga again after years of not doing it… While my muscles are far more fatigued after doing it, they feel much looser and softer. The pain shifts a little bit, but for me the relief comes from the softer muscles. At the end of the day I have very tired, sore muscles… But I can melt into bed with out cramping and get comfy. Honestly, I never thought getting comfortable in bed would feel like such a luxury.
I think that APPROPRIATE exercise can be wonderful for Fibro… The trick is to find the one that is good for you, and suits where your body is at that day.
