Angelfeather, I hope both of the specialists I see regularly (one's a rheumy and one's an endocrinologist)
do decide to retire soon, but I'm not holding my breath...they're both around fifty. (And get this--they're married to each other!)
My rheumy listens, but her solution is ALWAYS a drug, and my endo treats me like a child...if I mention something I read, he invariably pooh-pooh's it, basically chuckling and shaking his head (very annoying).
I see my endo for both Grave's Disease and Type 1 Diabetes, and one time when my anxiety was through the roof, I thought maybe my Grave's had resurfaced (it's been in remission for five years), and I called his office and got the blood test done. When I saw him at the follow-up appointment, he told me my bloodwork came back fine, and as he did his patented soft chuckle and head-shake, he patted my shoulder and said "Sometimes our minds play funny tricks on us." AARRGGHH....!
Best of luck with your psych/counseling appointments...I hope you find the help you're looking for!
