Hi, Noinsanity, and welcome! I'm glad you popped over here! Have you see Dr. XYZ yet? A rheumatologist is good for diagnosing fibro and other problems. They will run you through blood tests to rule out other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms as fibro. I went to my first rheumy a couple of months ago and found out I had not only fibro but also a rheumatic disease! These are treated differently. So, I'm glad you are going.
Yes, we can have pain that feels like joint pain but it usually isn't the joint. It's the muscle, tendons and ligaments that make it feel like joint pain. BUT it is important to get things ruled out. I have had horrible back pain for years, chalked it up to fibro, and just found out that wasn't the case. The pain I was feeling was extreme and was helped with anti-inflammatories. Fibro isn't an inflammatory illness so I've been treating my new diagnosis for much of what I've been going through.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum. There are links about fibro and you will learn a lot there, too. Good starting links are called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. You just might see yourself there.
I'm very glad you are seeing a good rheumy...one you want to see! Please let us know how the appointment goes because we do care about you.
