My husband and I recently moved back to Georgia from Alabama. With me being so sick, I just needed to be around family. We have needed the extra support. I'd like to think that we are a bit more mature than people our age because of my diseases because we have been so pushed to the limits. But the problem was that all of my meds were taking up all of our money. Anyhoo, before we moved I went to the Dr to get refills on everything so that by the time we got here I'd have time to recover from the move and get settled before I had to find doctors and all. Well, we get here and no one wants to transfer my meds. So, thats Tramadol, Loritab, Gabapentin, Trazadone, Flexeril, Imitrex, Xanax and a few more than I can't remember due to Fibro Fog. lol. So I haven't had my meds in a couple weeks. I have been so witchy, so miserable. Having excruciating pain and seizures and sleep problems...pretty much all of the progress I had made was gone within a week or so. FINALLY today I got some pain meds and xanax. But how frustrating! We can't be on these things for years and then have someone tell us that we just can't have it without going to a new Dr and getting a new prescription. We don't have the money for all that!!! And now I'm trying to get on disability and all those hoops aren't cheap either! I'm just frustrated. My husband can't find a job, I'm stuck in bed without meds and acting witchy to everyone which I hate because I truly don't mean to be. I just don't know how to sound happy when the pain is so fierce. And I always go to the Bible for comfort but when its that bad, I can't even read. It has just been the worst couple of days...and I just needed to vent. Hope you are all having better luck with doctors!!

Moving is a stressful time for anyone. It will all get worked out, hang in there. I am in Gwinnett County, if you are near me I can send you doc recommendations.

kagendo, Wow I hope you dont have to ever go through that again. That was very dangerious going cold turkey. It's not uncommon to have seizures form stoping all your meds like that. I hope it never happens again, but if it does you shoud go to ER. I was without medical insurance for a year waiting for my medicare. I had to pay cash for all my meds also. I went to the cheapest meds and shop around town. I am not sure if you have a costo around, but my meds were unreal cheap for them. Some running $100 cheaper then other places. I was so thankful and I survied paying cash for a year. I know in Alaska there are so many places to help you when not working or no income. Have you tried medicaid? I hope you can catch up and get some relief from pain meds. I also read the Bible for comfort and it does help me so much. My favorite is Psalms on the rough days. I pray that you have peace and rest tonight.

Oh no! That's awful! Don't feel bad about getting "witchy," how could you not?

I can't believe no one would transfer any of those meds, that's just plain wrong. Dang, it's amazing to me that you can even still type, no kidding!!

Were these prescriptions at nation chain-type drug stores?  If so, I think I'd talk to someone there because they should be transferred.  Someone isn't doing their job.  When I moved here from Florida, my medications were transferred and I didn't get a new doctor for nine months!

 

What they did to you is dangerous, too, and I'd point that out also.  Many medications you don't stop "cold turkey".  Sometimes it takes weeks to get in to see a new doctor too!  I'm diabetic.  What if that happened to me and I couldn't get my pills and insulin?  See what I mean?  Even when I'm traveling, I can get meds if I run out.  I have my prescriptions at CVS so I'm in their computer file and a store in another state can check and see if I have refills, etc.

 

Meanwhile, try moving around more.  Staying in bed usually causes more pain and fatigue.

I use WalMart pharmacies for their $4 meds and also because they say its easy to transfer. Just to clarify, I've been having seizures for about two years now. Been on meds to put them under control. I'm most worried about stopping that one cold turkey. Without it I have about 5 seizures a week!!! And I still don't have that one! Thank the good Lord that they somehow filled xanax yesterday even though they keep telling me its illegal to fill them because my Rx is from ALabama and its some Georgia law...blah blah blah. Anyway, if I keep Xanax in me, I can keep the seizures at bay. But I hate staying on Xanax like that. I have it to stop seizures when they come on (2 or 3mg for that) but now I'm taking .5 throughout the day just to try and stay above water. It is crazy. I mean...a person could seriously die from this! Just makes me angry and frustrated! Trying to get benefits or disability but I haven't been able to do ANYTHING without my meds. I'm cranky and in terrible pain and can't sleep well. And I am a Christian...and so I am trying so hard not to be an absolute witch to those around me...but its so stinking hard. =/ Prayers would be great. Thanks so much for the comments.

And a whole lot of supplements that I do have, thank the good Lord!!!

Good grief. I wish I had some great advice, but it sounds like you're doing everything you can. I can't understand how this can happen in this country, and in this day and age.

Something's just not right here :(

it's ironic doctors prescribe drugs that cause terrible side effects if you have to miss them for awhile

That is horrible. I went through a horrible withdrawal from Vicodin when the pharmacy and doctor's office messed up and didn't refill my medication. I agree that there needs to be a better system when you go from state to state. I use Walgreen's and when I had to leave Oregon and go to California for a family emergency I was able to get refills in CA of Vicodin.

Check other pharmacies too. Most of them have $4 medicines these days.

I hope you get the help you need ASAP.

I think it is the doctors who wont transfer. Anyhow, go to a teaching hospital, they even have primary doctors there plus all the specialists. Get a copy of your medical chart from your previous doctor and get established with a new doctor who will work with you on that.

Glad I live in Australia.I was never completey supportive of middleclass welfare and free hospital etc. but here you could never be in your situation as anyone on welfare gets very cheap meds WITH a price cap for all and everyone benefits from a Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) which basically means cheap prescription meds for all regardless of income.

A much better system, IMHO! I believe in the system helping everyone...we're all part of it, aren't we? How I wish things were different here.
