Hi I'm new here. I've had Fibro since 2005 but only diagnosed 3 yrs ago. I've been on a multitude of med cocktails and have recently found the best for me is Savella 2x a day and Vicodin at bedtime. My worse days now are right before my periods to several days into them. They are extremely painful and heavy. My primary doc has recommended an ablation but my gyn is thinking IUD. I have seen several post saying the ablation has helped but nothing on IUD. Anyone have any advice?

I have a similar problem. My dr said he wouldn't recommend an ablation. I can't take birth control because my hormones are naturally on the lower side. Anything that raises them makes me sick, including my period. I haven't found an alternative that my dr will approve. I wish you luck in finding a great option. Maybe let me know what you find! Lol

I've a friend with MS, she uses IUD, since installed, her menstrual cycle has gone down to almost never for 3 years. Hope this helps.

But in certain state, you need to at least have a child to be able to have an IUD. That's what she told me. She's in NC. But if you OBGYN has suggested it. I'd say go for IUD. It will help control your menstrual cycle.

I had an iud inserted after my son was born in 2008. I stopped having periods after about 2 years. I had that iud removed in January this year because the 5 years were up. My periods started back like clockwork, and that is about when my symptoms started really kicking in. I just had my new iud placed in June, so I'm not really sure how it will affect me, if at all, though I did not have a period in July, so that's a good sign.

A far as how long it takes to control your cycle, I had very irregular spotting for several months after I got the first one, a full blown period off and on for about another year, and one or two periods in the third year. It wasn't until the 4th year that I stopped completely. So, if your goal is to stop your cycles altogether rather quickly, the iud might disappoint in that regard.
