The times when I'm feeling my worst(very achy all over, very tired, and dizzy), if I take my temperature I usually find that I have a slight fever. It's never that high(99-99.3) and most people probably wouldn't even consider that to be a fever, but I do because when it's that high I'm usually not well enough to drive.

How many of you experience fevers/elevated temperature with your flare ups?

I've had temperatures as high as 100 degrees when the nurse takes my temperature when visiting the doctor.  That is "normal" for me.  I seem to have a low grade temperature most of the time.

I also have fevers with flare ups.  I generally have sub normal temps, so when I start to hit 99 degrees, I'm not feeling very well at all.  This will usually occur in the late afternoon on days I've been pushing myself and/or am just in flare.  An all out flare will produce fevers 100- 103, along with headache, and body/muscle pain.  The fever usually subsides over 3-4 days, but it takes longer for the fatigue to diminish.  However - there is some question about this being from chronic epstein bar/chronic fatigue, or an autoimmune condition - something the rheumie is trying to figure out.  I have not been under the impression that fibro causes fevers with flare, and it isn't uncommon to have dual conditions of fibro and an autoimmune problem.  Be sure to tell your doctor/rheumie about the fevers.  I also seem to have some liver involvement during the flares w/ fever - enzymes go up, along with CRP, etc., so perhaps some bloodwork would be clarifying as well.  I chalked up everything to the fibro dx for years - before being referred to a rheumie.  So my advice is to keep a journal of your symptoms and fevers - as well as your normal temp - so you can get a good feel for what is going on and talk to your doctor about it.

I didn't think fever was a symptom of Fibro. When someone asks me what fibro is, I usually tell them its like having the flu all the time, without the fever.

 

However, when I am in a flare and my pain is severe, I get hot and sweaty. Not because of a fever, but because the pain is so intense. I have not checked my temp. during that time though but it don't feel like a fever. It feels more like a hot flash.

 

But then again, I'm new to this DD so I could be wrong or it could be different for everyone.

I usually have subnormal temp but when I'm in a flare and have that flu like feeling I do run a little temp. But than I do have sjogrens which is auto-immune. I stopped trying to figure out what causes what a long time ago. tongue I just know there are times when my body really feels like it is trying to fight off something.

That's funny, I also am usually subnormal for temperature, around 97 point something, so that's probably why I start to feel pretty ill when my temp is only 99.

This is an interesting topic. I had assummed that my low grade fevers were associated with my Crohns instead of Fibro. Hmmmm, maybe I was symptomatic with the Fibro sooner than I originally thought.

Sherrine- Which came first for you? The low grade fevers or Crohns?

My "normal" body temperature always hovers around 97.5 (which we all know is sub-normal).  I've noticed that when I'm in a flare, my temp jumps to at least 99.5-100.  However, I don't think that fevers are a normal symptom for fibro.  Personally, I'm in lupus-limbo (and every other auto immune disease limbo), so maybe my fevers are from one of the hundreds of other problems.  Or, maybe I'm just crazy and my temperature goes up when I'm in a "mental flare." wink

 

Anyway, I hope we all figure out what the **** is going on with us.  I see my GP this AM-and I've got lots of new questions.  If I remember, I'll ask him about the fever thing. eyes

Prior to fibro my temp was always normal. Now my "new" normal is 99-99.3 when I go to my Dr's appointments. GamJill

Fevers are also from inflammation somewhere in our bodies, or even pain too. I use to have a sub normal temp, always 97 something, so 99. something does feel kinda bad, and i went like a whole year with the low grade temp of 99 to 100, tested for everything, he finally said inflammation, I have arthritus, and pain could cause the fever, we just could figure out where the fever was coming from, he finally concluded i have something autoimmnue, just not sure what..

I've also always been a sub-normal temp. When Everything is in it's average of 97.5-97.7. When I'm not doing well and am hurting I tent to run in the 99's. Generally I don't break 100.

I always had a 97.5 regular temperature too so when I get to 98.9 I'm in fever mode. Sometimes I get them once a week, I'm glad to hear it might just be from the inflammation.

Also subnormal and elevated temp when flaring or in more pain. No autoimmune issues here...although we are still trying to figure out why my white blood cell count is consistently a little high.
