What a difficult decision you face. I have never heard of PBSC, so I looked it up. It does seem like a difficult, potentially uncomfortable procedure, but from what I read, the risk of serious issues seems small.
I recently had a pretty major surgery, and I had several complications (from infection to a minor surgical injury). It's taken a while, but I am slowly getting back to normal (whatever that means). I have had many surgeries in my life, both pre and post fibro. I honestly have never really noticed a huge difference in recovery with fibro. The only major difference is more stiffness and soreness from inactivity. I didn't, however, notice an increase in actual level of pain.
Would the medical staff be willing to provide pain relief for you if the muscle/bone pain was intolerable? What is the risk of a permanent problem versus one that would eventually go away?
I admire you for wanting to help your family member. It's a difficult choice for a healthy person to make, and having a chronic illness makes it even more difficult. I wish you the best.
