Loss of close people to me!

I needed to vent my feelings today. I feel so sad this week with so many people I know moving out of state of Alaska. Alaska is very hard state to live in. My psychiatrist is leaving state, my pastor is leaving state and some friends. This seems to happen every year before winter gets here. People say they can't go through another winter here. You would think dividends of $1900 would keep them here. The oil was great this year, so each family member gets $1900. I guess I have to look on the bright side getting the money. I am going to Hawaii with it!

Today was only 49 and Rainey. My fibro is on a flare for sure. My ribs felt like I have been kicked. Even the jets on the hot tub hurt my skin today. I am probably stressed too from the loss of a pastor, friends and my dear psychiatrist. I will take this a day at a time. My heart hurts!

Are things pricy up there? I mean like groceries, rent and what not... Do you get the 1900 every month just for living there? That is interesting...

I hope you can save up to go to Hawaii, that would be awesome. And a nice reward...

I am sorry everybody is leaving. But maybe you will meet new people wanting to try it...

Angel, I'm so sorry. It's so hard to lose important people in our live...like our doctors and pastors. We rely on them a lot. But as Karen said, new people will come along. You will get to "show them the ropes" and let them know all the good things about your state. So e people absolutely love Alaska. The oil earnings boost is great, too. Most states do t give back to their citizens like Alaska does.

Just keep yourself warm, keep moving, and look forward to meeting new people. Plus maybe start a new hobby so this winter won't be the exact same as last winter. This would give you something to look forward to. I do genealogy and only do it in the winter months and am always anxious to get back to it. So give this so e thought.

I'm so sorry, akangel. I've had many close friends move away over the years; It seems like every time I make a new close friend, she ends up moving away. It's always hard.

I don't have any advice, just (((Hugs))). I hope your transition to a new doctor is a smooth one. Maybe he/she will be able to add something to your life you haven't had before - new perspectives, new ideas, etc. Same with your new pastor.

So sorry, ak angel. Yes, it surely can make your heart hurt. Reading your post made me stop and think about some people close to me who have moved away, and it made me a little nostalgic and teary eyed. I think many of us have 'been there; done that.' It isn't easy.    cry

There's great advice given above, and you have lots of support here.  What first came to my mind is that maybe you can keep in touch, even if via email and maybe Christmas cards.  I know it's helped me.

I like to remember the advice given to Maria in "The Sound of Music" movie:  "When God closes a door, He opens a window."  It always gives me a ray of hope. yeah

Sorry, Angel. I know it hurts. Each person we're close to, it seems, takes a piece of our heart (some bigger than others) that no one else can fill.

My church recently changed ministers too, which is challenging, but we're also losing our choir director of over 20 years....this one's really hard for me. She was such a presence. I'm trying to be open-minded and remember that change really is the way of the universe and all.....but it's hard.

I hope your flare calms down and you feel better soon, all the way around.

I am newer to the boards. Sorry to hear you are having a bad day with cold and rain.

Our day is very windy and I get in a lot of pain too. We so seldom have calm, sunny and warm but not hot days.

I have not been to Alaska. My Husband and I have been watching the reality shows about Alaska. It gives us a glimpse of what it is like. We lived in Alberta for a couple years and it can get very cold. They do have breaks when Chinook winds come in. My Husband travelled to Yellowknife once on business. It was winter and very cold. Some businesses provide extra incentives to keep professionals there for several years, much like Alaska. Some people love winter but I have little use for it anymore. In Ontario, we do get our share of cold and snow. Last winter we had severe weather and the trees became laden with ice. There was so much damage to the trees. It made walking outside difficult.

Do get away to Hawaii and enjoy!

Yes, it is sad when people important move away. I felt sadness too when I could no longer work. I loved the friendship that we all had. I do hope that some good people will fill the shoes of your Psychiatrist and Pastor.

Thank you for all the great support you have given me. I don't have any hobbies and I sure would love to find one that I can do. I know I can't knit or etc. because I loose count too easy. It doesn't surprise me if we get snow early this year. I need to find something soon.

Karen, Yes Alaska is one of the most expensive places to live. Everything has to be shipped up so they hand the cost to us. Forget getting any bread fresh unless you buy it from a bakery. Most everything is prefrozen. Lol

Alaska gives back once a year in October. It depends on how well they do on the oil. We didn't get as much last year. It was $950. This year it's going to double we heard. The amount is about $1975. Each person in your household gets one as long as you applied and have lived here one full year. Many people try to lie and move out of state, but still try to get it. They get caught and go to jail. The problem Alaskans have with it is we spend it before we get it. Lol Some will pay off bills, but most splurge on it. Lol I am going to Hawaii this winter. The commericals are crazy right now advertising sales for your dividends. You can sign them away to a car dealer before you even get it. It seems everyone wants a bite of it. I have used mine in the past for new vaccum, glasses and clothes. It's like Christmas in October around here in the stores. Stores put out big items that fit your dividends. If you owe collection agencies or child support and etc. They will take your dividends.

I'm not into knitting or crocheting or anything like that, but one thing I enjoy is embroidery. You can find iron-on transfers (I like Aunt Martha's) from Wal-Mart or probably most craft or sewing stores or websites.

I've tried both the colored thread embroidery (a ton of pretty colors to choose from!) and the liquid pen-type, which is really easy and fast.

A friend of mine got a beautiful embroidered bedspread from her mom for a wedding present. Gorgeous! You could decorate kitchen towels, bedspreads, pillow slips, dresser scarves, doilies, etc.

My mom did several blocks of embroidered state birds.  It makes a really pretty quilt.


Very pretty and fun and easy to do. I enjoy it as a cozy winter hobby. :-)

If you really want to do a yarn craft that doesn't require too much counting, look on Amazon or google for a Knitting loom. (they have all different shapes for different projects. ) about $20 and you wind the yarn around pegs to make hats, shawls and afghans.

How about puzzles? Either jigsaw or word puzzles.

Do you have access to junk? LOL I think there is a pinterest board called Re-Scape. They have all kinds of nifty ideas for recycling or upscaling junk to treasures.

I don't think that I could handle the darkness of Alaska to live there. I would love to visit the state. I get SAD in January here in the deep south with the shortened days.

No fun when the people you get close to leave. I do hope though that you will like your new pastor and I hope you find a doc whom you can form that bond with. It is so important to find one whom you can trust will do the right things for you and help you move forward.

I would love to be able to see Alaska. From your other posts that I have read in the past, it sure does sound beautiful. The bonus $1900 sounds really really nice!! I do hope you get to go to Hawaii, another one of our beautiful U.S. states.

This certainly has been a challenging year for you, but you seem to handle it with a great attitude, and as we know, that really is half the battle isn't it. As we move into the latter part of the year, I wish great things for you.
