Tips for Dr appt today - more pain meds

I would go in there and tell her how miserable you are. The pain has completely controlling your life no matter what you do. Explain to her that you feel like PM might have better opitions for you. They deal with this time after time. You don't necessary say I want more narcotics. I understand they can do injections on my whatever hurting. This is how I got in the door. If She still doesn't get it then find a new Dr. Good luck

I agree. Strange how even doctors can't always identify with the horrible pain we experience. All you can do is spell out to her how extreme your pain can be. If that's not successful and she again ignores you (wow--not too sympathetic, maybe??), yes, I'd find another doctor.

If you do need a new doctor, maybe if there's a fibro support group near you, someone there could recommend a good doc or two who do "feel our pain." Best wishes and good luck! :)

Most of the time when taking narcotics for chronic pain you become dependent on them instead of addicted. There are some people can be dependent and others addicted. I got addicted and abused my narcotics. There are people do very well on narcotics and then there are a group like me that doesn't. I have a family history of addiction so this might be some of the reason.

If you do get more narcotics and see that doesn't work you might want to change to something different. I found out that the narcotics were actually causing me more pain. I continued to always be chasing the pain. So I decided to try subutex which has been wonderful. It's long acting and you almost forget to take it. It doesn't give you cravings for narcotics. Best drug they ever made. It's still considered a narcotic but works in a different way so you dont become addicted.

Well I think yesterday's appt went pretty well. We talked quite a bit and she listened to what I had to say. She filled my FMLA paperwork out again and told me if I have any more trouble getting approved to have my HR contact her direct. She knew the FMLA laws pretty well.. I was quite surprised. I asked for pain management and she said she was being honest about how the clinics here work and said I'd probably have trouble even getting approved to be seen by them. I guess they only like to do injections and spinal work here in town. She did up my dose and upped my quantity each month so I think this will actually work.. She gave me exactly what I wanted which was enough to get me through work and the rest of the day! Thanks again for everyone's help :)

I'm glad you had a good doctor's appointment. It's nice to have a doctor actually listen, isn't it?

Great to read your update. Sometimes (not always) just having heart-to-heart with your medical provider is enough to let them know you're at wits end and NEED to try more of or something different than what you are presently taking so you can try to get some level of relief to be able to function through the day.

Now if HR would just wake up as far as the FMLA you'll be all set.

Do you mind my asking what is the name of the pain medication you take and does it help?  I, too, have a full time desk job and I find it's getting harder and harder to get through the day.  I really try but by 2 or 3 my body is just not cooperating.
