Does anyone ever feel chest pain when they breath? It's like you are really congested and it hurts to breath but there's no congestion. I'm not sure if this is fibro or something else.

I have a lot of tightness in the connective tissue of the chest wall..

The first time it was really bad , my doc had me get checked out at the ER.

We also tend not to breathe as deeply as we should... This is not atypical with fibro....

Of course if you are not sure whats going on , be sure to check with your dr.

There are also stretches you can do to loosen the chest ..i am sure you could google that..

Does your doc ever recommend you for physical therapy? It can help, as well as the trigger point book.

No, my dr hasn't recommended any physical therapy. I may ask him next time I see him. I have thought about getting the trigger point book. I guess now I will go ahead and get it.

It's strange because one day it will hurt to breath and I will think I'm coming down with a cold or something, the next day it's fine. But, that's how fibro goes, I know.

You might want to check out a therapy called strain and counter-strain...its very gentle releases of fascia..

But i know its not available everywhere, cause a local therapist is teaching it all over the world. But you can also learn to do these releases at home.maybe not as well as a trained therapist, but enough to get some relief...

I think we tighten up with pain, and need to stretch everything back out to stay more comfortable.

Is that part of the melt method? I saw that on Good Morning America maybe a week or so ago. I went to the garage and got my pool noodle so I could give it a try.

Can you give me the name of the pressure point book?

No its not part of melt, but rather done hands on by a therapist

The book is called The tigger point therapy workbook, by claire davies.it was on amazon recently..

There is something called costochondritis that can cause the pain when breathing. For me it comes and goes. If I press on the sternum and it's tender, I kind of know what's happening. There is a link in Fibro 101 all about it. See if it sounds like what you are experiencing. My doctor had me take ibuprofen for it.

I've talked about the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook many times on the forum. It really is worth the little money it costs. I came across it about four years ago when I was researching trigger points, ordered it, and it's helped me so much...I even fixed a frozen shoulder using the info info in this book. I showed it to the physical therapist in my doctor's office and she even ordered it and I gave a copy to my massage therapist as a Christmas gift one year. LOL. I bought mine on Amazon and Amazon lets you read a little bit of it to see if you want to buy it. But I do highly recommend it. It has saved me a lot of pain.

Thank you to both of you. I ordered the book today. I also read the link on costochondritis and it does sound a little like me. I have an appt with my dr in a few weeks and I will ask him about it. (It doesn't feel like I'm having a heart attack so I feel comfortable waiting.)
