Root canal in a few hours and feeling scared

I am an hour away from a dentist appointment myself and am very nervous so I know how you feel if that helps at all. I have been reminding myself that I've been there before and come out fine as well as listening to some new music. Try to distract yourself until its time. I am sure everything will go smoothly :D

Hi Huddie: I had a root canal recently (my second) and before they started the procedure, the dental assistant asked me if I had any questions or concerns. I would guess they would ask you that, too.

I said the only thing I had a concern about was if I would be able to keep holding my mouth open! (Really, that's all you need to do---lie back and keep your mouth open). I remember the first time, my mouth got tired. She said she had good news for me! They now use a soft 'block' that your mouth can rest on. Yes! It was a huge help!

All in all, it went extremely well. Sure there are the usual dental 'scents' and noises, but they can be ignored. Try to fix your mind on something pleasant--maybe being on a beach on a sunny day, or something else where you had fun.

And remember, they see patients constantly, and often ask you how you're doing. They know the concerns of patients.

Really, the only thing that really concerned me was the cost, and insurance helped that.

I'll be thinking of you and say a prayer for you. I'm sure others here will, too. Relax---and let them do the work. Take a mini 'vacation' in your mind! :) And when you get back home, do something super relaxing.

You guys are the BEST. Love the 'more crowns than the Queen'. Funny. My palms are sweaty, my hands are shaking and my tummy is upset. I feel hot and weak all over. I hope it's just fear and not from the infection. I have been positive thinking, breathing, and distracting myself (Psych episodes with my son - but LOVE animal videos and may have to watch the dog who wants bacon video). Will chat in a few hours when I'm sure I'll be happy it's over. My husband is my rock and always comes with me but he has a broken leg. My 12 year old is accompanying me. I'll act brave for him. THANK YOU ALL for your kindness and support - means so much. An additional thanks for understanding and never making me feel like a baby.

Thank everyone for keeping me calm and making me laugh. I just got home and did not have a root canal. That's the good news. Endodonitist thinks I may be grinding on teeth and pushing on a nerve bundle which is causing a fibro flare up and all the pain. He also thinks I may be having a subtle heart issue since my left jaw hurts, my left arm is tingling and I have slight flutters in my chest and tummy trouble. I do get tingling with fibro and I think fear created all the other symptoms but I'lll be off to the cardiologist tomorrow. A root canal is looking good right about now! You women are so funny and I truly enjoyed reading all of your experiences. I've been waiting on my husband all week because of his broken leg so he definitely has that bell.
