How were you diagnosed?

I am fairly new to the forum and fibromyalgia; I was diagnosed about 3 months ago. Over the past year, I have had numerous blood tests (I haven't had a Lyme test or ANA test, though), an abdominal/pelvic CT, an abdominal/pelvic ultrasound, colonoscopy, endoscopy, a head MRI, abdominal x-rays, and quite a few chest x-rays. I still wonder if fibromyalgia is the correct diagnosis; I often wonder if it's possible that I have Lyme disease, an autoimmune condition, or even a neurological condition.

How were you diagnosed? How many of you have had numerous tests before diagnosis? Also, does anyone wonder if fibromyalgia is the correct diagnosis (or did you ever feel this way after being diagnosed)? I appreciate your feedback!

I've had almost similar tests to what you've had, plus I've been tested for Lyme disease (was negative), and have a nerve conduction test, which I passed.

I started seeing a neurologist several years ago (before being "officially" diagnosed), since I was having many muscle spasms and muscle cramping. That's when all the testing started!

I should also mention that it was found that I also have an as-yet undiagnosed neuro condition, in addition to the fibro.

I was diagnosed after I developed lupus. I was having constant pain that my regular painkiller wouldn't touch. The rheumatologist said I had fibromyalgia also after a few pokes and prods.

I should also mention that it was found that I also have an as-yet undiagnosed neuro condition, in addition to the fibro (possibly mild CP). The neurologist said I had very "sloppy reflexes," which surprised me, and he asked me if I'd always been klutzy (nothing like being blunt, LOL!).

Actually, the neurologist also mentioned it was somewhat of a 'wait and see' diagnosis, concerning the neuro condition (my regular doctor labeled part of it fibromyalgia). This was about 12 years ago, and thankfully, things haven't gotten worse.

Thank you for your response! I'm glad things haven't gotten worse. I just don't know what to think anymore about my fibro diagnosis. I suppose I will talk to my doctor. Thanks again :)

Thank you for your reply. I'm thinking I should see a rheumatologist, as it was a family doctor that diagnosed me with fibro. I have wondered about lupus, but I know that many of its symptoms can be symptoms of other conditions.
