In the past five years all the major research on fibro has concluded it is coming from a stuck CNS arousal system being stuck in the on position

Research, major or minor, haven't concluded anything. The doctors are working on it but still do not know for sure what is going on with fibro.

Thanks for the link, Andre. I have PTSD from emotional trauma and I was in a serious car accident.

But, I believe there are some in here who have not experienced emotional trauma.

What the research has shown is small amounts of stress reaction over long periods, especially in the years zero to 25 are enough to reset the nervous system

This is especially critical in childhood when the CNS is plastic and it need not be major events. If you had reason to tense up often it can be enough in a genetically sensitive individual

Unrecognized internal belief systems and thoughts can be enough to sensitize the CNS arousal system if you have the genetic sensitivity to stress

Simple concern about how yu feel is enough to keep it going

Doctors do not know the cause of this illness. There are a variety of ideas out there and many are studying this. We have a good link in Fibro 101 from Dr. Daniel Clauw who has been researching this illness for years. I'm also putting two links below...one from the American College of Rheumatology and one from the Mayo Clinic. These are trusted sites. Both say they don't know what causes fibro but have ideas as to possibilities.

The bickering needs to stop. We have members, myself included, who post things that we think other members might be interested in. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the link that Andre posted. The only problem I saw was that he said it has been "concluded" and that isn't accurate. But we are adults and should be able to think for ourselves as to what we believe and what we don't believe.

This forum is a fibro support forum and that is what we should be doing...offering support. We should also respect one another's thoughts even if we don't agree with them. There are quite a variety of ideas on this forum...some feel certain foods affect them, others think genetics play a part, others think trauma or possibly a virus kicks in this illness, etc. And you know what? I agree with almost all of these ideas and will continue to until they find a cause for this illness. There is room for all of this. No one is wrong since these are all ideas. So, please keep the peace. Thanks!

Basic research can take a long time to filter down to organizations like the Mayo and American College of Rheumatology and much longer to practicing clinicians.

I remember reading about pelvic floor muscle dysfunction that many with anxiety and fibro have at the research level in 2001 - it took over 10 years to reach doctors and to this day many do not know about it and treat patients with drugs that are not indicated

Hi Andre,

In several posts in the past I mentioned I had very tight pelvic floor muscles. The physical therapy doctor I saw said this condition contributed to my fibromyalgia symptoms. After many sessions with her and doing the pelvic floor exercises they recommended, I'm no longer tight in that area. But, she said, I'll have to continue doing these pelvic floor exercises for the remainder of my lifetime.

How it was found out that I personally had this condition was I went to a urologist about my frequent urination at times and they performed a test to check my strength when it came to doing kegels. I had NO strength in that area. The urologist recommended the physical therapy doctor.
