It's Always Something OT

Sorry this has nothing to do with fibro...just needed to blow off a little steam. Why is it, that right before my trips to Wisconsin to vist family and friends something has to happen....either biopsies, MRI's some sort of procedure or test...you name it...it happens within a few weeks of traveling.

Went to the dentist this morning...for always going to the dentist for regular cleaning and checkups...I have the worst teeth.

My body thinks my teeth are foreign objects and attack them. Autoimmune disease has not been kind to me. I've lost more teeth,due to dental resorption. X-rays confirm, I have another tooth that the root is affected....will be seeing an endodontist for consultation. I have had more root canals trying to save teeth and eventually they just break off at the gum line. Throwing money at all these procedures...crowns, bridges and partials only to have teeth disapear and unable to wear a partial because there are no teeth to support it. Learned that my left jaw bone maybe affected by resorption too.

OK I'm finished, will just try to focus on seeing my family and friends soon and do the one day at a time thing...and count my blessings....

My head is still attached to my body  and my limbs are still there.

I'm so sorry. You may end up getting implants. They are quite expensive & made of titanium. (I used to work for an oral surgeon)

Mouth stuff is just no fun at all.....and sounds like you've had more than your fair share of it. My sister-in-law has lost a lot of teeth, too, and a lot of her jawbone. Has to do with dry mouth from all her many meds over the years.

Seems that it never rains, but it pours.

Went to the endodontist today...he shook his head and said I don't know what to tell you...you're a mess....these were his actual words.

 He could try to do a root canal...all my others failed and the teeth snaped off at the gum line. I have torus mandibularis on the inside of both sides of my lower jaw...they are fleshy,bony growths. On one side the tori is the size of a big marble...on the other...there are four of them the size of peas. Wearing any dentures on the bottom would require chiseling these things out of my mouth...I'm being referred to another specialist to see if there are any other options. It is difficult having to work around an autoimmune disese.

Just to complicate things, I've been on Boniva for almost 10 years and there are dental surgeons who will not touch you...I still have root tips protruding through my gums that the oral surgeon is afraid to remove because there is a good chance the bone might never heal right...What's a girl to do?

So far I had been lucky in the sense that the teeth that fell out were not in my smile zone.... not this time...the new tooth that is affected is front and center. Now I could posssibly look like I really am from Arkansas,  instead of being a transplanted cheesehead

I'm anxious to get my next scan done too... my spine was at-4.3 YIKES then last time it showed some improvemnent at -3.9 that is still significant osteoporosis. My neck, forearm, femur and spine all show osteoporosis.

I too eat calcium rich foods and take my supplements. Osteoporosis runs in the family...I'm worse off than my Mom. Haven't broken any bones yet, thank goodness. Necrosis of the jaw is worrisome...I've asked specialists about that in the past and they are all over the place, The oral surgeon says get off Boniva...rheumy says I'm at risk and need to stay on...so much to think about and too much going on...I am overwhelmed !!!

Maybe I forgot to show up when they were passing out the good genes.
