Nortriptyline for fibromyalgia

I have been taking Nortriptyline for two weeks, the first week at 10 mg and the second at 20 mg. Although I have liked the drowsy way it makes me feel when I take it at bedtime, it does not seem to be doing anything else. It does not change my pain level at all. I still have to take a tramadol to quiet the pain enough for sleep. Has anyone here had a good experience with it? Does it take more than 2 weeks to see any change?
I am ready to dump it and try something else.

Been taking 50mg of nortriptyline for 8 months. I would like to say it helps but it did not for me. I have discontinued it through cut down and been off of it for a week. Pain feels the same. I too take tramadol. It helps take the edge off. No Magic Pill for this. Oh how I wish there were. I will go for days feeling somewhat better able to handle it, then it really rears it's ugly head and makes me feel anxious and down for several days until gradually I pull myself up again. The pattern continues on and on. I had a great handle on this for seven years and now it seems a battle. I keep holding on to the fact that I've felt better before which tells me there is hope I can again.

Give it a fair chance. If you feel you have then talk to your doc about something else. There are many folks here whom have it under control and many use different ways to get there. Trial and error, the important thing is you keep trying til you find something that helps you get it to a point where you control it not the other way around.

I have had fibro for about 5 years and have been off all meds for a year to see if I could handle it solo…decided that I am sick of letting it control me, and giving some other meds a try might be productive. Savella helped me quite a bit, but then stopped after a year or so. Cymbalta, same story, plus I did not like the numbing effect that Cymbalta gave me.
I might try the Savella again since it has been years in between now.

It did not help with my Fibro pain but it does help with reducing the occurrences of my migraines.
I then tried Lyrica and have found that this does help with my Fibro pain.
Don't give up. Give each med a chance and if it doesn't work try another. It is worth if when you find something that works and your pain is reduced and your quality of life improves!

Did you go off nortriptyline for the Lyrica then? Or do you take both?

Thank you for your response Rockon. I am learning so much from others on this forum. You sound like you are very knowlegeable and keep up with the studies. It is my new hobby as well, unfortunately.
