OT- so excited!

I discussed things with my parents about how I can't seem to relax without having a cat purring in my ear. They explained that the reason they are so anti-pet is dealing with the cat hair is driving them nuts. I admit hair from three cats for 14 years can get to you.
In return for promising to get a short haired or no hair I would buy mom a light-weight vaccum and take care of the hair issues. I'm also to train it not to climb in the closets and have it declawed.

I also have to wait until after August 4th. We're going on vacation the week before and don't want to have to board two cats.$$$$$

I'm so excited for you too! I just posted about this in your other thread with links about how pets help us. This just might be your answer.

I bought an inexpensive Shark vac and it gets the surface air off my tile and carpeting. I use this about every other day to keep on top of the shedding my two cats do...and one is a long haired cat. She does most of the shedding so do stick with short hair or hairless. I think the hairless cats cost a lot of money. I ordered the Shark on line on the Walmart site and picked it up at my local store. They didn't have it on display so I didn't know they carried it! It was under $30 I think. It's about 2 pounds in weight so it's a breeze to use.

Also, get a slicker brush. They use these on dogs but our cats love it. It's amazing how much hair you can brush out with these, too.

I can't wait until you have your very own furball to snuggle with again!

The Shark brand has a variety of vacuums. I have the cheap one for daily hair and crumb pick-up. It doesn't have suction. It just has a brush that picks up the surface dirt. That's why it is so cheap. I have a regular vacuum that I use once a week that has great suction but isn't nearly as light as this Shark.

Shark has a new one out with suction and it's still pretty light-weight. It runs around $250 I think. Google Shark vacuums and you will see all they have to offer. Since you aren't sleeping at night, you can scan the TV channels for their infomercials. Really!

I use ceiling fans a lot here in Florida and I don't have hair floating around because I use that Shark vac.

That's so great! I'm so happy for you! I really miss having cats, but my husband and son are allergic :(

In terms of declawing, I have to recommend Soft Paws instead of surgery -- they're little covers that glue on over the claws (you can apply them yourself) and prevent claw damage. They even come in different colors and can make it look like your kitty got a manicure :) I used them with my last cat (my first one came declawed when I adopted him, so I wanted to make sure the second one didn't have an unfair advantage) and even though he could be really fussy about getting his claws *clipped*, he didn't mind the Soft Paws at all, either in the application or wearing. They can still go through the motions of clawing (stretching muscles) but they don't do any claw-related damage. You can Google them and order them online. If you have trouble applying them, I know some vets will do it for you (especially ones that refuse to declaw, and there are a growing number of them).
