Hi tangodancer: Sorry to hear you haven't been well. If it's any consolation, from what I've seen in my area (U.S. Midwest), it seems the cold/flu season has been in full swing for several weeks now, and it's hitting hard. You certainly aren't alone! Both colds and flu hang in there for a few weeks. :(
I had issues with my ears/sinuses towards the end of last winter, but knowing the warmer weather would likely help, I didn't go to the doctor (probably not the best decision). But--I did get my yearly physical a few months later.
Some time after that, I happened to remember that I didn't recall that the doctor had even examined my ears, though he usually does. Since I had no symptoms at that time, I let it go.
Then, about a month ago, I started having a full feeling in my ears, and what felt like a very stiff muscle in my neck (incredibly stiff--new for me).
I went to the doctor last week and found I had fluid behind both ears, and this affected the stiff spot in my neck (which has pretty much disappeared). I was told I probably had a virus previously and this was left over. The doctor said I could take an antihistamine or it would go away on its own.
I doubt I'll lose that fluid over the winter--things pretty much lock into my system (mine can be trash at times, too). But it made me think about how even colds can hang in there without our always knowing it. I have to wonder if fibro might play a part, but don't know. Maybe your current issues are "leftovers" from previous viruses and such. Have you been to a doctor?
Anyway, glad your fibro is better and hope the dance performance in January works out well. Don't get sick--have fun! :)
