Hi, Angryinpain, and welcome! What a mess! I think I would ask to speak directly to your old primary care doctor and let them know you were just getting a second opinion. You were not leaving their practice! If you are not reinstated then it's a good thing you found out how that doctor operates.
Apparently since you were able to see the DO, go see a different doctor who can become your new primary care doctor. Really do your homework. Make sure they are board certified and that they treat Fibro patients. You can find your local doctors' names in the phone book and then check them out at healthgrades.com and vitals.com. You can read about their education, any claims against them, and also patient review and ratings. Also, see if there is a Fibro support group in your area. You can get good doctor's names there. The local hospital might know if there is a group or your local chamber of commerce.
Ask friends. I went with my wonderful rheumy by asking my hairdresser. One of her clients had arthritis and loved her doctor so my hairdresser stopped working on me, called the other customer, and got the doctor's name. I went home and checked him out at those two site and saw he was fantastic. And, after I went to see him, he discovered that I not only had Fibro but also ankylosing spondylitis that was causing my progressively worse back pain. I was put on the proper medication and am now going great! Fibro isn't considered a progressive illness so that's why I wanted to see a rheumatologist...with my Internist's blessings by the way. He knew I was suffering and he felt I should see a rheumy. He gave me the business cards of two rheumies and one of the cards was for the rheumy I went with. It is very important to pass things by your doctor first...especially if you like them.
I use ibuprofen with food, Tylenol, magnesium malate, vitamin D3, and a muscle relaxer called Robaxin that has made a significant difference in my pain. And yes, I exercise! I walk as my gentle form of exercise and I swim in the warmer months, too. I hate to exercise but by the time I get back home from my walk, I have more energy and less pain so it makes it worth it to me. I also pace myself when doing things.
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about Fibro and you can learn a lot there. There are links about the magnesium malate and vitamin D and how they work in the body. All of Fibro 101 is good so do read it.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
