Getting a diagnosis....

Hi all,

I know it can take a while to get a fibro diagnosis and that many other conditions have to be ruled out as well. Does anyone know of a list or possible protocol as to all of the conditions that need to be ruled out first?

I don't have health insurance, so my dr. is ordering bloodwork in stages so that it's more affordable. I've already had an ANA (negative) CBC and CMP (normal), and am waiting on results for thyroid and sed rate. Just wondering how many more tests to go? lol I'm thinking at least a hormone panel because of my age and gender (42 y.o. female) and possibly an allergy test and lyme test (which I am very surprised they haven't ordered yet as I have a hx of tick bites). My joint and muscle pain has been present in upper and lower quadrants for more than 3 months, so I already meet that criteria. Just trying to get an understanding of what's to come.

Hi, PMM, and welcome! I'd insist on the blood tests for Lyme disease and have them sent to Igenex Labs in Palo Alto, California. They are supposed to be the most accurate lab in detecting Lyme disease. If you've had tick bites this could be what is going on with you since the symptoms of Lyme and fibro are very similar. Also, you can have both of these illnesses. We have a wonderful Lyme disease forum on HealingWell too.

You want doctors to rule out lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, MS, etc.

We all have our tests come back normal. My blood work says I'm the picture of health...except in the inflammation department. Fibro isn't an inflammatory illness but I have several other illnesses that are inflammatory.

Be sure to read Fibro 101... The first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.
