Medications and Hep C

Hi all,

It's been a while-have had a busy schedule, how is everyone? Lately I went on Mirtazapine to get off another medication, and spent about 2 month on it. After a while I started feeling kinda sick. My doctor(psychiatrist) told me to get my viral load checked. I stopped taking the medications and could not sleep still at about 5 weeks off. She sternly instructed the other day(psychiatrist) that I need to take the medications to sleep. I expressed concern regarding my viral load, and she then told me that medication usage is 100% independent of viral load. I was very skeptical, because I've been micro-managing my diet and meds for the past 5 years, and whenever one of the two is in excess(or stress excess), I feel a bit sick with symptoms relaed to the liver. It is difficult to think that these are completely independent of viral load especially if they put stress the liver. Can someone please help me understand the relationship between medicine and viral load?

Hi Mama thanks! Mirtazapine, is an antidepressant, also know as Remeron by brand. I've heard that benzos are rough on the liver, but thanks for adding that, I was considering possibly taking a benzo temporarily for sleep, but will look into other options.

I've been clear of Hep C for almost 2 years after taking interferon. Occasionally I feel symptoms, but then I rest for the weekend, and they seem to go away. It's seems like a game of cat and mouse sometimes. I also take colloidal silver, which I think is a great post interferon supplement and has really helped me to function and have a clear head with more energy, however long term usage is not recommended and some have mixed feelings about possible side effects (i'm by no means a doctor either). I hope everything goes well for you and your partner! Sobriety and balance are key for me. I think someone should create a networking site for former substance users (e.g. most of the world) who are serious about being clean, to provide us with strength and an understanding community(is there one already?). Thats why this site is so great for health conditions, I love you guys!

Lol, thanks Connie that does bother me! In a month i'm going to stop taking it. Going to listen to my doctor for a change and take my medications (sadly I'm not the perfect patient) because I'm told not sleeping is worse. Glad your liver functions are normal, great to hear. Have to check out your threads when I get a chance later today to see how you've been otherwise.-Jason
