Hepatologist Recomendation in NYC

I have posted before about my mysterious elevated LTFs (which have hovered around 200 for ALT and 150 for AST) for at least 9 months now.  I am Hep A, B and C negative, none of my tests have shown that I have an autoimmune form or genetic form of hepatitis, I don't drink (stopped social drinking for my pregnancy and haven't started back up since my LTFs shot up right after pregnancy) and my MRCP, ultra sound and liver biopsy were generally unremarkable.   I have seen a GI locally and a hepatologist at Mt. Sinai in NY who still do not know what is wrong and I am getting more concerned that this is still persisting without an answer.  I am thinking about getting  a second hepatologist's opinion and was hoping someone could recommend an expert in NYC.  Hopefully someone "world renowned" who might have the experience to handle an apparently challenging diagnosis.

There is more than one hepatologist at Mt. Sinai, ask for a second doc to take a look.

Did you see Dr. BOCK at Mt Sinai. She was Mike's hep.before we moved to FL.

Have you checked iron...Hemachromatosis can cause big liver problems as can an excess of copper in the system.

Good luck finding a DX. Have they repeated the lots as some of them viruses can sit quietly _hen not having a flare. AIH can hide between flares also.

There are many world class hepatologists in NYC.

My suggestion is to look at the list of physicians that are serving on the Medical/Scientific Board of the Greater New York Chapter of the American Liver Foundation and start your research there. Just make sure you call a hepatologist and not a transplant surgeon, etc.

If you want someone specifically at Sinai, my suggestion is to find the chief of hepatology and call them. Really, though, I would trust any hepatologist that works at 5 East 98th Street.

Disclaimer - I don't know who is running what over there. I just know that my experiences with all the physicians and staff at 5 East 98th has always been above and beyond my expectations.

I was referred to Dr Douglas Dieterich of Mt Sinai 98th st from a very credible source. I was told he's top in his field and in treating hep c and liver disease.

I pasted a daily news article for your review. I was scheduled to see him last week however I just finished rib&sol about a month ago and wasn't feeling well so postponed my appt. He's booked out about a month or so but if you ask for his secretary and really need a sooner appt, she will try to squeeze you in.

Welcome your feedback if you wind up going to him. I decided to wait a bit longer as it looks promising that I'll achieve svr but having a longer then usual time w lingering symptoms.

forgot to mention, I was going to dr dieterich for a 2nd opinion. I have been having a tough time with symptoms and he was highly recommended.

Dr. Dieterich is an absolute gem. Brilliant, kind, thoughtful. IMO, and YMMV, he is an excellent choice.
