Most here "know" my partner Mike and his story....ALD, HCV, HCC, Successful TP 2011, Successful TX 2014...woo hoo.

But since TX his BP has been up and down, mostly UP.

Yesterday evening it was 178/111 with no cardic symptoms. We went to dinner, to bed with the idea we would go to the ER if he "felt" anything odd.

This morning it was okay.....135/78. His resting pulse was in the 60s both times.

What would you have done? We sent an email to his cardiologist last night and this morning...he didn't answer until this morning and said he was glad the emergency had passed.

Emergency? Ooops.

Mike has a history of aortic stenosis and uncontrolled BP and is on 2 BP meds. We are not so up on our heart stuff as our liver stuff

Thoughts?

Mike had a one time bp 178/111 last night, with quite a medical history, some---cardiac. I would have checked bp every 10 minutes for 30 minutes to see where this was going, given his history and seemingly, no distress.

Hypertensive Crisis (Emergency Care Needed)-Systolic: Higher than 180 or Diastolic: Higher than 110

High Blood Pressure II-Systolic: 160 or higher or Diastolic: 100 or higher

If his cardio doc felt the crisis had passed, did not ask to have Mike be seen, or proceed to the ER, I would just watch it.

You know I am a cardiac patient myself, and have mine go the other direction. Too bad we can not put Mike and myself in a paper bag, give a shake, and both of us would have normal bp :) Big Hugs

Ack! MamaLama! That sounds scary. TheMiz shared good information with us. Hope that this doesn't happen again.

Monitor his blood pressure frequently. Have baby aspirin ready for emergency. Do some more research!!
