To make a long story short, my nephew tested positive for Hep C, on two occasions via lab work. He recently had a liver biopsy and his doctor called to say that he doesn't have Hep C. How can this be? Has anyone else had this happen and could it be that the biopsy needs to be repeated? I don't know how the blood-work could be positive for Hep C, but the biopsy is negative.

Could be just a mistake in reading or understanding the lab results. I was initially diagnosed with Hep.C by means of lab test. Later to find out it was a mistake. I have advanced liver disease secondary to alcoholism as later testing proved. I was a bit angry at first over the misdiagnosis but comforted that I wouldn't have to contend with fighting Hep.C also. The biopsy is the gold standard in testing for liver disease. Hopefully this was just a fluke and he'll be o.k.

Some people get Hep C and their body fights it off. After that you'd still test positive for Hep C.

. Did your dr run a pcr rna test. This test is conclusive.
