Effexor and IBS-D

Hi, My name in 2005 was gooshi, but for some reason I'm unable to use it now.
In 2005, I posted the fact that after 27 years of unabated IBS and thousands of dollars of doctor bills and tests and trying anything I could think of, I was prescribed
Effexor after a terrible romantic break-up. Lo and behold, it cured my IBS. This was completely unexpected, the doctor who prescribed it didn't even know I had IBS.
Now it is 2009 and I continue to be COMPLETELY FREE OF IBS!!!!! In my wildest dreams, I never thought I'd be free of IBS, it had a fact of my life for so long.
I'm sharing this with all of you because it is the most miraculous thing I've ever experienced. I have no connection to the drug, I have nothing to gain by promoting it, I just want to share my experience with anyone who is suffering like I did in the hopes that it will help you too.
It's Effexor XR, I take 300 mg, but at 150 mg my IBS disappeared after only a few weeks. The only reason my dose was raised is because I found I wasn't having orgasms with it, and apparently raising the dose gets rid of that side effect, which is what happened to me.
When I started Effexor, I felt nauseated, but it went away pretty quickly. I had no other side effects. Effexor is supposed to be hell to get off of, a lot of difficult withdrawal symptoms. I personally don't care because I never intend to go off it. My life has changed so radically since not having IBS, there is absolutely no way I'd ever go back.

My belief is that doctors often say things are caused by emotional stuff
when they don't have any other explanation. I heard that a lot
and I'd say, "Look, if you spent you're whole life worrying about your
bowels, you'd be pretty anxious and depressed too. So which comes first, the IBS
or the depression and anxiety?"
It can be brutal living with IBS and it doesn't help that doctors don't have a clue about how to treat it. I had tried other antidepressants and some helped a little, but not a whole lot. I think doctors just try anything in the hopes that something will stick.
Anyway, I'm one of the lucky ones, Effexor changed my life, and maybe it can do the same for someone else.

Thanks for saying that. It gets me so upset when doctors basically blame
the sufferer for the symptoms, pretty much saying that if you weren't such an emotional mess you wouldn't be sick. It's their way of covering up that they have no idea what's going on. It's very unkind and only heaps more anguish on the sufferer.
